Principal's Message

Dear Portland Families,

What a fantastic start to the 2026–2027 school year! It has been wonderful to welcome our students back to Portland High School and see our hallways once again filled with energy, laughter, learning, and Highlander pride.

This week’s Spirit Week was the perfect way to kick off the year! From the creative outfits and enthusiastic participation to the laughter and school spirit throughout the building, our students and staff jumped right in and reminded us what makes PHS such a special community. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the week so much fun!

Thank you to our students, families, faculty, and staff for helping us start the year on such a high note. We are officially off and running, Highlanders, and it is going to be a great year!

Kate Lawson

Mr. Ott Brings Museum Learning Back to PHS

PHS social studies teacher Mr. Ott was one of 37 teachers and professors from around the country selected to attend the "Connecting Collections" Summer Teachers Institute at the Met, MoMA, and Guggenheim museums in New York City this year.

The week-long training program was led by museum education specialists and art historians sharing object analysis strategies, methods, and activities. The training program was not in classrooms, rather, it took place in the three museums, with daily tours of the galleries alongside some of the greatest art in the world. Mr. Ott is excited to incorporate the new strategies and activities into his US History, Psychology, and Black & Latino Studies courses.

In Other News...

Parents of the Class of 2027

Volunteers are needed to help with Project Graduation. The kickoff meeting will be held on September 30th 2026 at 6:30 in the library. Please come to help start brainstorming ideas for fundraisers to raise money for the graduation party for our Seniors.

The all night grad party gives our kids a safe place to have one last night of fun together and celebrate the end of their high school journey. But it takes some volunteers to help make it all happen.

Please attend if you are interested in helping out!
