A Message from Mrs. Graf

It was an exciting week here at Gildersleeve! On Wednesday, our school community came together for our October Town Meeting. A special shout-out to our Hive Council members from Mrs. Constantino’s class, who did a fantastic job serving as our emcees!

We had lots to celebrate and share! Miss Brede’s class introduced a special Veterans Day project, inviting students to create cards for our local veterans. Mrs. Graf also shared our Vision of the Graduate focus: “I do my part and help my group do our best!” To bring this to life, each class was challenged to work together to design a pumpkin protector that will help their pumpkin survive a launch from the roof of Gildersleeve! We can't wait to see the creativity and teamwork in action!

On Thursday, we enjoyed a Spooktacular Assembly presented by Mad Science of Western New England. There was plenty of laughing, oohing, and ahhing as our students enjoyed this exciting program. We are grateful to the Gildersleeve Grant for funding this wonderful experience for our students!

Finally, we wrapped up the week with one of our favorite Gildersleeve traditions—our Annual Halloween Parade! We loved having the PHS Band join us to kick off the festivities and help make the day extra special.

Wishing everyone a fun and safe weekend!

Library News

After more than 36 wonderful years with Portland Public Schools, I would like to share the news that I will be retiring at the end of this school year in June 2027.

From my early years as a classroom teacher to my time as a library media specialist at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, it has been an absolute privilege to be part of so many students’ lives. The connections I’ve made have been among the most meaningful gifts of my career, and it has been so special to watch generations of families grow—including the unique thrill of teaching the children of my former students!

I will always treasure the memories, friendships, and partnerships that have made my time here so deeply fulfilling. As I look ahead to retirement with excitement and a full heart, I plan to make the most of this final school year by celebrating our students and cherishing every moment with the Portland community I’ve been so fortunate to call home.

I will miss you all,
Mrs. Radz
