What is the McKinney-Vento Act?
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act is a federal law that ensures all children and youth experiencing homelessness have access to a free, appropriate public education and can succeed in school.
Who qualifies for support under McKinney-Vento?
A variety of students may be eligible for support under McKinney-Vento. These include students who:

Are sharing the housing of others due to loss of housing or economic hardship ("doubled-up")

Live in motels, hotels, trailer parks, or camping grounds due to lack of adequate alternative accommodations

Live in emergency or transitional shelters

Live in cars, parks, public spaces, or abandoned buildings.

Are Unaccompanied Youth (not in the physical custody of a parent/guardian)
